What’s holding you back?

I read Dave Navarro’s blog post today about how to become a bigger player in life, business, whatever.

If you don’t know Dave, he writes two blogs, The Launch Coach and Rock Your Day.

Simply put, Dave suggests the following 7 steps to a bigger, better business, blog, life, whatever:

Being Yourself: A Wise Blogging Strategy

We all tend to think that our blog posts have to be something special. In the sense that they should teach your reader something they didn’t know or remind them of something worth recalling, I agree wholeheartedly.

But there’s another kind of post that readers also enjoy.  I call it the human content post.  It’s the kind of post that just says…

“You know, I may an UberKool Blogger-Dude, but I’m also a human being.”

Human content provides your readers with at least three things.

They are:

1. It gives your readers a chance to get off the “I must learn something from this post“ treadmill and simply enjoy their reading. Sometimes, it’s a nice change of pace to read for enjoyment and not feel you need to record a take home message.  When was the last time you did that on a blog?
2. It gives them insight into who you are. On the off-chance that you’re a  Separatist Droid, this will be meaningless to you.  But, if you are indeed a human being, let it show from time to time in your blog content.  Readers like to know that you have issues, too.
3. It encourages them to do the same. Every one of your followers need encouragement as well as concrete  examples to follow. What better example, from time to time, than to give your readers a lesson-learned from your own life away from blogging.

I say, go for it.

How It Works

Has this ever happened to you? You’ve been working on a blog post document in a text editor (or a Word, Excel, Photoshop, etc. project) while on your work computer or at a friend’s house and you want to save it to your portable  USB drive to take home.

Problem: You don’t have it with you. Bummer.

Solution: Save it to the Dropbox folder on the computer and when you open your laptop at home, your file is there and automatically updated.

Dropbox installs in minutes and is free. It’s a great way to save files without the need for a thumb drive. It uses cloud computing, kind of like your blog software, to store files on Dropbox server and automatically updates to whichever computers you choose to link to your Dropbox.

I stumbled across Dropbox and man, am I ever glad I did. 2 GB of free storage (paid version has a lot more, but the free account is perfect for transporting files between computers) and if you refer people to Dropbox and they sign up for a free account, you’ll receive an additional 225 MB of storage on your own free account.

Today’s Brief: ‘Tony Robbins Video with John Reese and Frank Kern’

One of my favorite blogs is Paul Piotrowski’s Inspired Money Maker. I like the honesty with which Paul writes. Simply put, his blogs inspires me. I recommend it to you.

I want you to view the video (see the link below) on Paul’s blog.  Why? I enjoy spreading some link love to another blogger who’s given me something to think about on more than one occasion.  While you’re there, subscribe to Paul’s RSS feed for blog updates.

In this video, Tony Robbins, John Reese, and Frank Kern talk about what it takes for most people to get off their chairs and start kicking their plan into action.  I just viewed it and it really got my attention.

If you haven’t already seen this video, spend 38 minutes of your day viewing it.  I promise it will excite your desire to build the blog-religion you’re dreaming of.

It happens to us  all. We fall off the blog-posting horse.  We get into a funk of non-productivity. And we feel crappy about it.

Sounds like and oxymoron, I know.  Ignoring the grammatical horrors of the headline…this has always been one of my personal, if not habitually practiced, life mantras.

When I ‘go slow’ life has a way of unfolding at the same pace. I worry less, experience less stress, and generally am a much more peaceful, if not happier, camper.

Today’s Brief is aimed at getting you to do 3 things:

1. Surf over the ZenHabits.net and read Leo’s post on practicing mindfulness. (Leo runs a pretty awesome blog-religion, btw.) 
2. Explore how you can do less in a more deliberate manner. 
3. Share your own experience in a comment and enjoy your mindful day.
